Discord Management (Category packs)
Description
User Guide
Create reusable category templates, generate them on Discord in one click, archive the categories you no longer need, and clone part of your server to another one. Reserved for administrators, entirely driven from the dashboard.
What it does
- Saves packs: a category template with its list of channels, their types and their permissions.
- Generates the pack on Discord: the bot creates the category and the channels, and applies the permissions.
- Archives an existing category: its permissions are captured, then the category is locked, hidden or restricted to staff.
- Restores an archived category to its original state.
- Clones categories and channels (messages included) to another server.
- Keeps a history of all these actions.
How it differs from Server Builder
These are two complementary tools that should not be confused:
| Server Builder | Discord Management | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | The whole server (roles + complete structure) | One category at a time |
| Templates | Templates provided by TennoCore | Your packs, which you build yourself |
| Risk | May overwrite the existing structure | Never overwrites anything: it adds a category |
| Typical use | New server or full rebuild | Adding a section (game, division, event) to a server that is already alive |
Remember: Server Builder is for starting out, Discord Management is for growing.
Quick start (Admin)
- Open the dashboard → Automation category → Discord Management.
- Templates tab → Create a pack: give it an internal name and a type (Section, Games / eSports, Division, Community, Staff, Other).
- Edit the pack → Add a channel for each channel you want, then set its type and its role.
- Optional: the Permissions button on a channel to fill in the matrix (see below).
- Generate: enter the name of the Discord category to create, then map the template's abstract roles to the real roles of your server.
- Check the result on Discord.
Commands
This module has no Discord commands: everything happens from the dashboard.
Settings from the dashboard
The module is organised into four tabs.
Templates
- Pack type: Section, Games / eSports, Division, Community, Staff, Other.
- Channels in the pack: name, type (Text, Voice, Announcement, Forum, Stage) and role (Standard, Recruitment, Voice, Announcement, Roles, Rules, Welcome, Staff).
- Order: up/down arrows to reorder the template's channels.
- Permission matrix per channel: four abstract roles (
@everyone, Player / Member, Staff / Assistant, Officer / Admin, Moderator) crossed with the relevant permissions. Each cell has three states: inherited, allowed, denied. - Generate: category name + mapping of the abstract roles onto the server's real roles.
Categories
- List of the server's categories with the number of channels and a preview of the first channels.
- Archive a category, with three modes:
- Read-only: nobody can write, react, create a thread or connect to voice any more.
- Hidden: the category becomes invisible to
@everyone. - Staff only: invisible to
@everyone, visible read-only to the staff roles you designate.
- Restore an archived category, or view the details of the archive (mode, date, saved channels).
Cross-server cloning
- Tick the categories and channels to clone, enter the ID of the destination server.
- Analyse the selection produces a roadmap: number of categories, channels, messages and an estimated duration.
- Confirm and deploy starts the copy, with a progress bar and a live log. The operation can be cancelled.
History
A log of archivals, restorations, creations and edits, with the date, the target, the mode used and the number of warnings if any.
Good to know
- The bot needs the Manage Channels and Manage Roles permissions. Without them, generation and archiving fail.
- On generation, an emoji is added in front of each channel name according to its role (💬, 📋, 📢, 🔊, 📜, 👋, 🏷️) — unless the name already contains one.
- If you do not fill in the permission matrix, a default behaviour applies: channel visible to everyone, Staff channel hidden from
@everyone, Announcement channel visible but read-only. - A channel of type Announcement is only converted into an announcement channel if your server has Community mode enabled. Otherwise it stays a text channel, with no error message.
- Discord limits a category to 50 channels: beyond that, generation stops with an error.
- Deleting a pack does not delete the Discord channels already created: only the template disappears.
- A category can only be archived once: as long as it appears in the archives, archiving is refused.
- Archiving renames the category with the 📦 prefix and moves it to the bottom of the list. It also synchronises the permissions of the category's channels with those of the category: settings specific to a channel are therefore overwritten — which is exactly what the backup lets you recover.
- Deleting an archive is permanent: the saved permissions are lost and the category can no longer be restored automatically.
- For cloning, the bot must be present on the destination server.
- Cloning analyses and copies at most 5,000 messages per channel. Messages are reposted through temporary webhooks (deleted at the end) using the original author's name and avatar. Reactions are not copied, and attachments are re-uploaded.
- Cloning is slow by design (roughly one and a half seconds per message) so as not to hit Discord's rate limits. Expect several hours for a very busy channel: the roadmap gives you the estimate before you start.
- If TennoCore is not on the server but your custom bot is, generation and archiving automatically go through it.
